How My Apprentice compares
If you're already on something, you're not really asking "is this good software" — you're asking "is it worth the fortnight it'll take me to move". These pages try to answer that honestly, including the parts where the answer is no.
The comparisons
- My Apprentice vs ServiceM8 — the biggest name in Australian job management, and what actually differs.
- My Apprentice vs Tradify — the other one most tradies shortlist.
More are coming as we write them properly. We'd rather publish two comparisons we can stand behind than six that are really just ads with a table on top.
What to check, whoever you're comparing
- What's the price for your actual crew size? Not the headline number — the number for six people, on the tier that includes the features you'd actually use.
- What's behind a higher tier? Ask specifically about invoice scanning, custom forms, job templates and reporting. This is where the quoted price and the real price come apart.
- What happens with no signal? Half of trade work happens somewhere a phone doesn't work properly. Ask what the app does in a basement.
- Can you try it without giving them anything? A free trial that needs a card and a sales call is not the same as opening the product.
- Does the crew see your margins? Check what a first-year apprentice can see on their own phone.
- Who answers when it breaks? And how long do they take.
Where we'd tell you to stay put
If you need SMS to customers, GPS crew tracking, a proper SWMS and compliance module, staged or progress billing, an asset register, or MYOB and QuickBooks rather than Xero — we don't do those yet, and an established platform will serve you better today. That's not false modesty, it's just the honest list.
Where we think we're the better call: you run the business from a phone, you want everything included instead of tiered, you work where the reception doesn't, and you'd rather email the people who build it than a support queue.
